Delayed gratification / Gratificación con retraso

Gran Café, Caracas, Venezuela (October 1991)

(English version follows below).

The picture in question is the first successful “selfie” in my records. Young people of the world! Not too long ago, taking a “selfie” was a rather complex task! Here are instructions for a picture like the one shown above: place your SLR camera on the table, rest the lens on one or two books, frame your picture carefully, start the camera self timer, quickly get yourself within the picture frame, catch your breath for an instant and assume your most casual face. Seconds later: the camera flashes! Despite all this effort, you will not immediately know if the picture came out good or not. You still need to take the roll to a photography lab, for film development. See, back in those days, instant gratification did not exist.
