Church Marquee saying

Hartford Avenue, Ponca City, Oklahoma (2009). (English text follows below). *

Ponca City, a town in the American Great Plains, has one church per every 310 people. This statistic indicates that Ponca has one the highest concentration of churches on a per capita basis in the U.S. No surprise there, as Ponca is in the heart itself of the American bible belt. And with the churches -especially the evangelical churches- come the church signs. “There is no evidence that the tongue is attached to the brain” says brilliantly the signpost. The authors of these ecclesiastic messages are great publicists, indeed. Click here for other examples. Walking the fine line between the sublime and the ridicule, these writers do deserve our admiration just because of their sheer creativity and humor. Despite all of these churches and all these copious religious signs, I never affiliated with any of the churches in Ponca City.  Many of these churchgoers tried really hard to convert us, as they knocked on our door, religiously. May God help us! *
