The true history of France / La historia verdadera de Francia

By the early 90’s, a new generation of Venezuelans was ready to enjoy the arts. Television was loosing its grip. And, yes, anasyrmas are also part of the arts.

La Veritable Histoire de France, International Theater Festival of Caracas, Avenida Bolívar, Caracas (1992)

(English version follows below).

Royal de Luxe, that French theater group paid a visit to Venezuela, the South American country, back in the early 90’s. They came to show their street parade titled “The true story of France” and, well, to earn some of the petro-dollars that were being given away by the organizers of the International Theater Festival of Caracas. On the other hand, the moment was ripe: a critical mass of Venezuelans was ready to enjoy something different from a television program. Thousands of Caraqueños filled Avenida Boívar from East to West. They were all closely watching the parade of courtesans, Charlemagne, Louis XI, Napoleon, Marie Antoinette, the soldiers of the first World War, the fighters of the battle of Waterloo and the crusaders. All of a sudden, the unexpected gesture of an anasyrma (see below) came out of nowhere and onlookers were pleasantly surprised.
