City Lights / Luces de la Ciudad

City lights, neon lights, electric billboards… fascinating stuff! The perfect overture to a night of sound and deep sleep.

(English version follows below).

At dawn, the city -any city, really- changes into a supernatural entity. City lights blind us sometimes, they mesmerize us other times and always open the door to a world unsuspected.  I remember well those nightly outings organized by father at the drop of a hat. He would invite the wife, the children and sometimes our cousins to come inside the Chevy Impala. In the evening we would then travel from El Paraíso to Chacao only to admire the numerous neon signs in Avenida Francisco de Miranda. It was the sixties and electric billboards were still a novelty in Caracas. After all these years, neon still fascinate me. City lights are the perfect overture to a night of sound and deep sleep.
