Of one city, all cities / De una ciudad, todas las ciudades

Commonalities among cities are easy to spot. Actually, cities differ only in their local color. In a sense, once you have been to one city, you have been to all. And, yet, you should not give up your thirst to explore new cities.

Akihabara street corner, Tokyo, Japan (2013)

Tokyo is a wonderful place to lose yourself in a crowd and eat in small, less known places. In Paris, hordes of tourists and locals take on the streets and overflow obscure bistros and cafes.  In Caracas, people push each other to gain a spot in an overfilled subway wagon only to later stop by in an improvised food stand to gulp down a hot dog or a hamburger. Every city has its parks and museums, every city has a main street, every city has neon signs somewhere. Transfixed and absentminded, people walk their solitude and avoid eye-contact. All drivers are unforgiven, all pedestrians are impatient: no one seems to be content where one is at the moment. Once you have been to one, you have been to all. Within a city -any city- lies the seeds of all other cities *

  1. Excelente Tino!
