Going and returning / Ir y venir

“There is nothing that involves only going without returning. It is the nature of Heaven and Earth. Where there is going, there also must be returning” – I Ching.

Stained glass titled “Going Away, Coming Home” by Hung Liu, Oakland Airport, Oakland (2016)

(Versión en español abajo) Traveling exhibits a dual nature, like everything else. Any journey is composed of both the going away and the coming back home. We either seek adventure, new experiences, exciting places, the satisfaction of our desires or we seek to return to the comfort of our own, quiet, familiar home and the things and people we know well.  While moving, we are indeed caught between our desire for the new and the longing for the old. Look no further than Homer. “The Iliad” is a tale of going away from home while “The Odyssey” is the tale of the returning voyage. Like a pendulum in movement, our own life is a circular journey that will take us back to where we came from. Boring and predictable? Yes. Exciting and uncertain?  Yes, that too ! *

Si. “Emocionante e incierta?” Eso también! *
