In the late 1940s amp 50s whats now Nelson Ledges Quarry Park was an operating rock quarry. It employed many people in the surrounding area mining both quartz amp sand. As the story goes one day in the late 1950s the machinery hit one of the many springs amp the 30-acre quarry filled within days leaving peninsulas rock shelves amp an island .
